Dear Sunset House & Meadows Counseling Center community,

I want to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to each one of you. This time of year is filled with joy, celebration, and the opportunity to connect with loved ones. However, for those of us in recovery, it can also be a time of heightened stress and potential challenges.

I urge you to prioritize your well-being during this holiday season and to utilize the invaluable skills you've gained through your journey in recovery. Here are a few tips to help guide you through this time:

Stay Connected: Regularly reach out to your sober support network. Whether it's friends from meetings, sponsors, or other individuals in recovery, staying connected can provide strength and understanding during challenging moments.

Trust Your Instincts: If a situation feels risky or uncomfortable, trust your instincts. It's okay to prioritize your well-being and decline invitations or remove yourself from situations that may jeopardize your sobriety.

Communicate Openly: Use your words to express your feelings. If you find yourself in a situation that makes you uncomfortable, it's perfectly acceptable to assert your boundaries and communicate your needs. Honest and open communication is crucial during this time.

Educate Your Loved Ones: Remember that your family may not fully understand the complexities of addiction. Take the opportunity to educate them about your journey, the importance of your recovery, and what may be triggering or unhealthy for you.

Attend Local Meetings: Maintain your commitment to your recovery by attending local meetings. Surrounding yourself with individuals who share similar experiences can provide a sense of community and support.

Give Back: Consider giving back to others who are just starting their journey in recovery. Your experience and support can be a source of inspiration and encouragement for someone who may be facing similar challenges.

Avoid Overcompensating: You don't have to make up for past mistakes or struggles by buying expensive gifts or taking on responsibilities that may overwhelm you. Focus on your well-being and recovery journey.

As we celebrate this holiday season, may it be a time of reflection, gratitude, and continued growth. Remember that you are not alone, and the Sunset House and The Meadows Counseling Center is here to support you. Wishing you a healthy, sober, and safe holiday season.

Warm regards,
